A wonderful day at Horton Kirby

Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic, sunny  day at Horton Kirby learning about  habitats. The highlight of the day was actually going into the River Darenth to search for organisms. Although everyone wore wellies somehow the water managed to find a way in and there were many soggy socks! However this just added to the fun and learning experience.

Thank you to the adults who helped us on the trip- all of whom managed to stay quite dry!

Here me roar…

Year 2 visited the Natural History Museum as part of their Science topic, Living Things and their Habitats.  They experienced an earthquake simulation that shook them up and gave them a sense of natural disasters.  The mammal room provided a sense of size as the children viewed a blue whale, a giraffe and an elephant amongst other life sized animals.  The children then turned into explorers in the wildlife garden as they put on  safari hats and binoculars and went in search of minibeasts and plants.  It was then a quick trip to the past to see some of the many dinosaur skeletons on display throughout the museum.    A highlight of the trip for most of the children was seeing the moving, roaring model of the T-Rex.  At the end of a busy day, the children were full of enthusiasm for the  new things they had learnt and had found some new interests.  Thank you to our parent helpers. Happy Birthday to Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II

Last week saw the Queen turn a nifty 90 years old. To celebrate reception class work hard as team to create some bedazzling crown jewels. The children drew, painted and glittered a crown, orb and scepter. The children cannot wait for these to go up on the display board in the corridor.

The children also learnt and wrote lots of interesting facts about the Queen such as she has 4 corgis, 9 thrones and 10 crowns.

Where the Wild things are.

We have been learning about where the wild things are, the children have been drawing, describing and learning about the characters in the story. We even retold part of the story using actions.

Year 2 took advantage of the fine weather to plant some seeds.  We look forward to watching them grow and enjoying carrots, radishes, purple broccoli and lettuce as well as some flowers.

Nursery Visit to Catford Library

Thank you so much to all the parents and adult helpers who came with us to Catford Library.  The children very much enjoyed travelling by bus and sitting upstairs.  They were full of excitement looking out the windows and pointing to shops they knew.  Some even saw their houses.

The library was great fun.  Nick, the Librarian explained how the library worked and how easy it is to join.  He then read us some stories and the children had a chance to stamp their own books that they are borrowing for the Easter holidays.  Every child chose a book and some chose books for the children who were unable to join us.

When we returned to Nursery we set up our own library.  Here are some photos of our trip.
