Keep Nesting Bird Boxes

Housing and regeneration specialist Keepmoat came into St Augustine’s as part of their ‘KeepNesting’ initiative which involves the building and installing of bird boxes. The team Karen, Chloe and Paul came into school on Friday 28th April and worked with the year 5 pupils. The bird boxes were flat packed but the children had to hammer the nails to join the pieces of wood in the correct order (rather like a jigsaw). After much banging but no damaged fingers!! 12 bird boxes were assembled and then carefully decorated. Paul has installed the bird boxes in trees around the school (try and spot them) and we eagerly await the new feathered owners to move in.

It was a marvellous afternoon and all the children had a real sense of satisfaction in being able to construct the bird boxes without too much mishap and to be able to use a hammer and pliers successfully.

Our thanks must go to the Keepmoat Team
