EYFS
‘Play is the highest form of research.’
Albert Einstien
The Nursery and Reception class at St Augustine’s make up the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). In the EYFS children acquire knowledge and skills through play. The areas of learning are:
- communication and language
- physical development
- personal, social and emotional development
- literacy
- mathematics
- understanding the world
- expressive arts and design
At St Augustine’s we create confident, independent learners and arrange the classrooms and activities to encourage this. Throughout their play children learn to communicate and develop the skills involved in turn-taking, sharing, negotiating and resolving conflict. We endeavour to ignite a desire for children to be curious and explore new situations. The children learn to be resilient and persevere when they come across a difficulty.
‘Children need the freedom and time to play.
Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity.’
