Welcome to Reception Class!
All children in Reception Class are taught within the framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. It is a holistic approach to learning and places a strong emphasis on the individual child.
Play and exploration is a fundamental part of learning in Reception class. Children learn through first-hand experiences; by actively ‘doing’ something, by observing other children at play and by observing adults modelling activities. Children have sufficient space and opportunities, indoors and outdoors, as well as the time needed to persevere at a chosen activity. We provide a wide range of planned activities, as well as allowing time and resources for children to initiate their own learning. Activities are planned taking into account children’s stages of development and current interests.
Outdoors is an extension of the indoor classroom where a great deal of learning takes place. It is equally, if not more, important than the indoor classroom. Our outdoor area is accessed by children EVERY DAY, whatever the weather.
The Reception year for children is like no other. It is when children make their first friends and discover how they fit into our school community. They also acquire the key skills and attitudes that will form the foundations of their learning for years to come.
Reception Class is open for children from 8.45am. Children are offered a morning snack of fruit and encouraged to drink plenty of water. At lunchtime and afternoon playtime, children play in the KS1 playground at the front of the school. The end of the day is 3.15pm when children are collected straight from the classroom.
We love working in Reception Class with all our wonderful children!
